NEW YEAR, NEW LOOK, NEW ATTITUDE

The Marconi Stallions have celebrated the new year by heralding a new look and a new attitude, which they believe will take them back to the top.

With Lee Sterrey back at the helm and a fresh-faced squad ready for action, the Stallions are confident they can improve dramatically on what can only be described as a disappointing 2008.

Headlining a well-balanced squad, which combines plenty of experience and youth, is former Italian Under 21s defender Andrea Merenda.

The 31-year-old central defender arrived in Australia in September last year and joined the Stallions following a short-term contract with the Central Coast Mariners.

He has taken little time to settle in to the new environment and the Inter Milan junior is already proving a popular figure among team-mates.

“The club, coach and players have been very good and helped me feel very welcome, so I’m very happy at the moment,” Merenda said.

“I’ve played for a few clubs and been to many countries and the players I’ve seen here are very good and have plenty of ability.”
