STALLIONS UNBEATEN RUN COMES TO AN END

A lack of composure in front of goals has cost an under-strength Stallions side the three points against the Blacktown City Demons on Saturday night.

Missing five first-grade regulars, the Stallions still did enough to create numerous opportunities, but were unable to capitalise when it mattered.

Matthew Gordon made the most of his chance to start for the home side and was lively out wide.

His good work helped set-up nippy striker Stefan Donevski for the first real chance of the match, in the 15th minute, but his effort was well saved by the Demons number one, Ivan Necevski.

Not long later, the Stallions seemed certain to score when Tolgay Ozbey rounded Necevski but had his shot brilliantly cleared off the line by a Demons' defender.

Necevski, who was the busiest player on the pitch, was again called into action throughout the first half, pulling off a number of spectacular saves to deny the Stallions.

Lady luck wasn't on the Stallions side and this was no more apparent than in the 51st minute when a header by Ben Bronnenberg to keeper Cem Akili, beat everyone and bobbled into his own net, gifting the Demons a goal they were not to surrender.

That's not to say the home side didn't have more chances, but Necevski was in fine form, and determined to keep a clean sheet.

Ozbey had two efforts thwarted by the Demons' shot stopper, while Donevski could've snatched a point in injury time, but his strike sailed over the bar from just a few metres out.

The Stallions will hope that their fortune turns around when they take on Sydney Olympic in the quarter finals of the Tiger Turf Cup when the two sides clash at Belmore Sports Ground on Tuesday, kick-off 7pm.
