Stallions Take bite out of wolves
The Marconi
Stallions have bounced back from a mid-week loss to outclass the
Wollongong Wolves at Jensen Park on Saturday.
The 4-0 win sets up a
dramatic final round of the Johnny Warren Cup, with the Stallions
needing a win against pool rivals Manly United, to have any chance of
progressing to the final against the Sutherland Sharks.
The Stallions will
also need pool leaders Sydney Olympic, who are one point ahead, to
slip up against competition newcomers the West Sydney Berries.
Coming off a 4-2 loss
to Olympic, the Stallions began brightly against the Wolves and opened
the scoring through new recruit Tolgay Ozbey in the 14th
minute.
The Stallions cause
was helped just moments into the second half when Wollongong keeper,
former Marconi custodian Daniel Nash, was shown a red card, after
bringing down Ante Deur in the box.
Despite missing the
ensuing penalty, promising defender Nathan Moulds doubled his side’s
advantage when he headed home in the 63rd minute.
Kain Rastall and
Stefan Donevski rounded out the scoring, late on, for the Stallions,
who will take on Manly United in a do-or-die clash at Marconi Stadium
on Saturday night. Kick off at 7.30pm.
